Following the Annual Meeting of the Heads of Ukraine’s Diplomatic Missions Abroad, chaired by the President of Ukraine on 21 July, the Asset Recovery and Management Agency initiated a series of working-level meetings with the Heads of Ukraine’s diplomatic missions.
The first meeting within this initiative was held with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Canada, Mr. Andrii Plakhotniuk. The discussion focused on opportunities to enhance international cooperation aimed at the effective recovery of assets derived from criminal activities and located in Canada.
ARMA informed the Ambassador about the practical steps already undertaken by the ARMA to launch a systematic process for the recovery and return of assets from abroad. The Agency emphasized the importance of maintaining a permanent dialogue with diplomatic institutions, which serve as critical communication channels in cross-border asset recovery efforts.
The Ambassador expressed his readiness to support these efforts, emphasizing the importance of consistent dialogue, effective interagency coordination, and legal support mechanisms.
The meeting marked the launch of a new phase in ARMA’s diplomatic engagement, aimed at consolidating international efforts. The initiative envisages the involvement of Ukrainian embassies in a number of foreign countries, including G20 member states, in the processes of tracing, seizing, and recovering assets to Ukraine as part of the national strategy to restore justice and strengthen economic resilience in the context of ongoing armed aggression.
