ARMA specialists enhance their expertise in cryptocurrency crime investigations

Specialists from the Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA) took part inthe trainingMethodologies for investigating financial crimes involving virtualassets”, held on March 23-24 at the State Tax University.

The event was organized within the framework of the projectStrengtheningUkraine’s Capacity to Counter Illicit Finance” (UCIF), funded by the Government ofthe United Kingdom through the Integrated Security Fund and implemented by DAI Global UK Ltd in partnership with the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) andCrystal Blockchain.

During the training, participants developed practical skills that are directly applicableto working with assets obtained through criminal activities, including:

analysis of blockchain transactions and identification of digital footprints;
understanding of the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem and the functioningof crypto wallets;
practical use of the Crystal Blockchain analytical tool;
detection of traces of cryptocurrency transactions on digital devices.

Money laundering schemes involving cryptocurrencies remain one of the keychallenges in the field of managing seized assets. Enhancing expertise in this areaenables ARMA to more effectively find and trace assets concealed through virtualfinancial instruments.
