Intellectual Property and Seized Assets: Head of ARMA Olena Duma Meets with IP Office Director Olena Orliuk

12-05-2025

Head of the Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA), Olena Duma, held a meeting with Olena Orliuk, Director of the Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovation ((UANIPIO).

The parties discussed urgent issues in the field of intellectual property.

“ARMA frequently faces challenges related to unseized trademarks and industrial designs, as well as existing agreements concerning the management of intellectual property. These issues often lead to legal claims against ARMA from asset owners or interested parties under such agreements. We are already working to address these matters through proposed legislative amendments,” said Olena Duma.

The challenges that arise in the field of intellectual property in the context of seized or sanctioned assets require a comprehensive and balanced approach. The (UANIPIO) fully adheres to the sanctions policy and actively contributes to the development of legislative changes aimed at harmonizing national legislation with European standards. This is crucial not only for the effective management of such assets but also for the protection of the state’s interests at the international level—particularly in the light of Ukraine’s path toward EU membership,” emphasized Olena Orliuk.

ARMA is pleased to welcome Olena Orliuk as a speaker at the IV International Legal Forum “EU – Eastern Partnership” in Warsaw.

We are honored to host one of the TOP-50 most influential figures in the global field of intellectual property (2023), who will share with international partners Ukraine’s approaches to addressing such issues.

At the same time, it is a manifestation not only of the unity of government agencies, alignment with European legislation, and compliance with international conventions, but also of the effective protection of Ukraine from legal claims brought by asset owners before European courts.
