Within the framework of the sixth plenary session of the GlobE Network, which is taking place this year in Baku, a bilateral working meeting was held between representatives of ARMA and the Asset Recovery Department of the Prosecutor's General Office of Azerbaijan, the country that is hosting the global anti-corruption forum this year.
Ukrainian delegation was represented by Deputy Head of the ARMA
Pavlo Velykorechanin, Head of the Department for Finding, Tracing and Recovery of Assets in Foreign Jurisdictions Anna Makarenko and Headof the Department for Finding and Tracing of Assets of Sanctioned Persons and Other Entities that Pose a Threat to the National Interest of the State Maksym Pasik.
The parties discussed current challenges in the field of asset recovery from abroad, exchanged experience in legal instruments, international cooperation and current cases.
Representatives of the Department of the Prosecutor's General Office of Azerbaijan shared their experience of cooperation with other countries, in particular, in the recovery of assets from the UK, Montenegro and Luxembourg. They emphasized the importance of institutional sustainability, international legal assistance, and establishing cooperation with foreign jurisdictions.
In his turn, Pavlo Velykorechanin presented a number of key cases that are currently being handled by the ARMA. In particular, he mentioned active cooperation with Croatia, Germany and Canada on assets transferred to ARMA for sale.
ARMA has developed roadmaps for synchronizing legal procedures in foreign jurisdictions to ensure the enforcement of Ukrainian court decisions and further management of these assets.
During the dialog, the parties agreed on the importance of the GlobE network as a platform for exchanging information on best practices in combating corruption and recovering the proceeds of crime. Representatives of both agencies emphasized the need to strengthen information exchange, prompt response to requests and development of international legal assistance mechanisms.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to provide comprehensive assistance in joint initiatives and mutual support within the framework of global cooperation mechanisms in the field of asset recovery and tracing.
"Such meetings prove that only through systematic international partnership we can effectively find and recover the stolen assets. We are grateful to Azerbaijan for its openness, effective position and readiness to support Ukraine on this difficult but strategically important path," summarized Pavlo Velykorechanin.
