Acting Head of ARMA Yaroslava Maksymenko participated in the 17th session ofthe Implementation Review Group of the United Nations Convention againstCorruption in Vienna.
During her speech, Yaroslava Maksymenko emphasized that the recovery of illicitlytransferred assets today is not only a matter of justice and the inevitability ofpunishment, but also one of the key elements of national recovery, the protection ofthe rule of law and international security.
The statement highlighted that, for years, illicit financial flows, corruption schemes, opaque ownership structures and the use of offshore mechanisms enabled theaccumulation of resources that ultimately became instruments for financingaggression and war. Therefore, the recovery of illicit and sanctioned assets has todaybecome not only an anti-corruption issue, but also a prerequisite for a just peace, staterecovery and the protection of global security.
«Ukraine calls on States Parties to strengthen prompt information exchange, international cooperation in the tracing, seizure and confiscation of assets and toensure their transparent and timely recovery in accordance with international law», Yaroslava Maksymenko stated.
The importance of cooperation among States Parties aimed at protecting globalsecurity and strengthening international cooperation in the fight against corruptionwas also emphasized.
