With the support of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), a mission titled «Use ofAML/CFT measures to improve investigations of tax crimes and related taxrecovery» was held in Vienna.
The event brought together representatives of ARMA, the State Financial MonitoringService of Ukraine and the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine (BEB). Togetherwith international experts, they discussed modern Financial Action Task Force(FATF) and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) approaches to combating money laundering, tax evasion, illegal VAT refunds, commodity smuggling and other tax offences.
Key topics included the use of ARMA tools by pre-trial investigation authorities forthe finding, tracing and management of assets.
ARMA representatives emphasized the importance of an analytically driven approachto asset finding and tracing, digitalization of processes and strengthened interagencycooperation for effective asset management.
The role of ARMA in the asset recovery system was also highlighted, particularly inpreserving the economic value of seized assets and developing internationalcooperation for their recovery.
As a result of the discussions, participants agreed that the key to effectivecounteraction to economic crime lies in strengthened interagency cooperation, analytical work, international information exchange and the implementation ofmodern digital tools.
