Head of ARMA Olena Duma meets with Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Ukraine Seymur Mardaliyev

22-10-2024

On October 21, the Head of the Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA), Olena Duma, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Ukraine, Seymur Mardaliyev.

During the meeting, Ambassador Seymur Mardaliyev expressed gratitude to the Head of ARMA for the successful resolution of the issue of the arrested vessel carrying Azerbaijani citizens. He emphasized the role of ARMA in protecting the rights of Azerbaijani citizens and the rule of law in resolving this issue.

Recently, ARMA, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Reconstruction, successfully completed an operation to place the vessel in the port of Reni. This operation was a vivid example of effective interagency cooperation and international cooperation in resolving complex issues related to the management of seized assets.

The Head of ARMA briefed the Ambassador of Azerbaijan in detail on the activities and results of the National Agency. The key topic of the meeting was to discuss the possibility of exchanging experience between ARMA and law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan in the field of asset recovery and management.

“Azerbaijan currently has no separate body similar to ARMA. In our country, such responsibilities are assigned to the Department for Coordination of Special Confiscation of the Prosecutor's General Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The unique experience of your agency would be extremely valuable to us. We are interested in studying Ukrainian practices of tracing and management of seized assets that could be adapted to our realities,” - said Ambassador Seymour Mardaliyev.

Olena Duma emphasized the Agency's readiness to share its experience and best practices with international partners: “International cooperation and exchange of experience are key to improving the efficiency of work in the field of management of seized assets. We welcome the opportunity to share our best practices with our Azerbaijani colleagues. The start of such cooperation may be the signing of an international interagency agreement.”

Following the meeting, the Azerbaijani Ambassador promised to facilitate the organization of further meetings between ARMA representatives and the relevant Azerbaijani authorities to exchange experience and best practices of the National Agency.

This meeting is another step in expanding ARMA's international cooperation and strengthening Ukraine's position as an expert in the field of management of seized assets in the international arena.
