All of them will be transferred to the National Art Museum of Ukraine to ensure the preservation of the cultural heritage of our nation. This was announced today, on May 9, live on Suspilne.News by Olena Duma, Head of the Asset Recovery and Management Agency.
She said that the announcement of the competitive selection for the sale of the paintings was published on the ARMA's official website on April 17. On May 3, the Commission closed the application process for participation in the competitive selection. Currently, the Commission is processing the documents received by the contestants to determine the winner and the winner will be announced soon.
At the same time, at the request of ARMA, the National Art Museum of Ukraine is currently conducting an initial examination of the seized Medvedchuk paintings to determine their cultural value.
"We have already received preliminary data. Almost 90 of the 264 paintings have been examined, 13 of them have a cultural value, and we will ensure their transfer to the National Art Museum. They will remain the state's property forever. In this way, we will ensure the preservation of the cultural heritage of our nation," said Olena Duma.
Head of the National Agency added that ARMA will wait for the results of the initial examination of all 264 paintings in order to receive a final answer on the number of paintings that have cultural value for Ukraine. Based on the results of these examinations, there will be measures taken to preserve the nation's cultural heritage. Paintings that do not have such a cultural value will be sold by the electronic platform selected by the Commission on Prozorro.Sale.
Olena Duma also reminded that in addition to the paintings, the Agency is also ensuring the sale of other assets obtained by Medvedchuk, such as a collection of precious watches and a car "Maybach". The auction organisers for these lots have been selected. The proceeds from their sale will replenish the Ukrainian budget.
