The team of the National Agency of Ukraine for Finding, Tracing and Management of Assets Derived from Corruption and Other Crimes (ARMA) held an inaugural meeting with members of the Commission on the independent external audit of ARMA’s effectiveness.
The parties agreed on the working format, timeline, and stages of the assessment. The Commission will examine how the Agency performs its statutory powers and will analyse the key areas of its activity.
The audit is conducted with the support of the international technical assistance project “Support to Ukraine’s Approximation to the EU in the Area of Rule of Law (3*E4U)”, implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, and International Development Law Organization (IDLO).
It should be recalled that in January, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, by Resolution No. 71-r, approved the composition of the Commission. It includes international experts from the Netherlands, Romania, the United Kingdom, and Poland with experience in criminal law, anti-corruption, and asset recovery.
The independent audit is an important step towards the implementation of Law No. 4503-IX and the fulfilment of Ukraine’s commitments in the EU accession negotiations under Chapter 24 “Justice, Freedom and Security.”
Based on the results of the audit, the Agency will receive an independent assessment of its performance and clear recommendations for further reforms – aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of management of seized assets and strengthening institutional transparency.
