The Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA) has received expert opinions on the seized paintings (under one court order) belonging to the high-profile traitor viktor medvedchuk. Out of 284 seized paintings:
- 148 paintings will be transferred to the National Art Museum of Ukraine to become the heritage of future generations of Ukrainians.
- 136 paintings that do not have significant cultural value will be sold through Prozorro.Prodazhi. The proceeds will be used for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Previously, ARMA did not have a legislative mechanism that would allow the transfer of seized assets and cultural property to national museums. Thanks to the initiative of Anastasiya Radina, Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Anti-Corruption Policy, this legislative mechanism may be created this week. This is the draft law No. 11280-1 on the specifics of managing cultural property and other assets.
Thus, the seized works of art will be used as efficiently as possible in the interests of the state: valuable exhibits will be preserved for future generations, and the proceeds from the sale of paintings that do not have signs of cultural heritage will be used for the needs of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
Earlier, ARMA Head Olena Duma held a working meeting with the Acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Rostyslav Karandieiev. During the meeting, they discussed key aspects of managing cultural property and other assets in Ukraine.
