Another 2 billion for the Armed Forces: Government approves ARMA's purchase of military bonds from seized online casino funds

05-11-2024

Today, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the purchase of military bonds worth 2 billion UAH by the Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA). From now on, these funds, which previously belonged to a Russian-linked online casino, will be used to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities.

Earlier, in October, at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office, the court transferred 2.6 billion UAH to the ARMA. The Agency, in cooperation with the State Bureau of Investigation, ensured that these funds were transferred to the ARMA account in a state bank. According to the law, ARMA may invest up to 80% of the funds on its deposit accounts in military bonds.

It is worth noting that these funds have recently been threatened: On October 25, the Pecherskyi District Court of Kyiv ruled to lift the seizure of 2.6 billion UAH of Pin-Up's assets. However, thanks to the prompt actions of the ARMA and the State Bureau of Investigation, these assets were re-seized.

“Today's decision of the government is another important step towards restoring justice. The funds that used to work for the aggressor country will now provide our defenders with everything they need. This is a real financial weapon against the enemy,” emphasized the Head of the ARMA Olena Duma.

Taking into account these 2 billion UAH from online casinos, the National Agency's portfolio of domestic government bonds will already amount to almost 8 billion UAH in equivalent, including 31 million USD and 6.5 million EUR. Today, the total portfolio from the management of seized assets already amounts to 12 billion UAH.
