29-10-2024

On the final day of the bilateral meeting between Ukraine and the European Commission within the framework of the official screening of the negotiating chapter “Justice, Freedom and Security”, Vladyslav Zhornytskyi, Director of the International Department of ARMA, made a presentation. He spoke on the topic of Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters.

The head of the delegation and chief negotiator was Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and Minister of Justice of Ukraine.

Vladyslav Zhornytskyi presented the European partners with a list of current and planned measures to implement a mechanism for the distribution of confiscated assets between states and improve procedures for returning property to victims. In particular, the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Asset Recovery Strategy for 2024-2025 was presented, which provides for the improvement of the asset distribution mechanism and strengthening of international cooperation in this area.

The issue of the institutional capacity of Ukrainian authorities involved in mutual legal assistance was also highlighted.

It is worth reminding that bilateral screening sessions are an important stage in the negotiation process on Ukraine's accession to the EU. Based on their results, the European Commission will prepare a report on the compliance of Ukrainian legislation with European standards, which will determine the next steps for Ukraine's full integration into the European Union.

All meetings were held in a hybrid format. More than 300 Ukrainian experts took part in the offline and online format.
