$31 million for the Defense Forces of Ukraine: ARMA bought military bonds

Assets Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA) for the first time carried out the purchase of Military Bonds in foreign currency for the amount of 31 million US dollars. This operation is a continuation of the successful practice of effective management of seized funds, in particular, to support the defense of Ukraine. Such a purchase will provide the Ukrainian army with the most necessary: ​​weapons, ammunition, equipment, food and medicine.

"This purchase is our next contribution to the defeat of russia and the strengthening of Ukraine's defense capabilities. This not only strengthens the financial base of the defense sector, but also demonstrates how state institutions can operate effectively in wartime," emphasized Head of ARMA Olena Duma.

The total amount of purchased bonds includes, in particular, seized funds of russian sanctioned persons and companies. We are talking about offshore companies related to Mykhailo Fridman and Peter Aven, the betting company "1xbet", as well as 1 million dollars of the former head of the regional military medical commission.

The high efficiency of this purchase - the weighted average return on purchased OVDP in US dollars is 4.6%, which exceeds the return on foreign currency deposits. Since the beginning of 2024, ARMA has purchased military bonds worth UAH 1.7 billion and USD 31 million. USA, which in total amounts to almost 3 billion UAH in hryvnia equivalent. The total volume of government bonds in ARMA's portfolio reached a record level of UAH 5.5 billion equivalent.

We would like to remind that legislative changes were made at the initiative of ARMA, which allowed the Agency to purchase OVDP at the expense of seized funds in foreign currency. Subsequently, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved ARMA's purchase of military bonds for a record amount - almost 38 million US dollars. It was planned to use 31 million US dollars and 6.5 million euros of seized funds, which are placed in the accounts of the Agency. The current $31 million transaction is the implementation of the dollar portion of this plan.
