Competitive selection for the sale of the yacht of the notorious pro-Russian politician Viktor Medvedchuk, a traitor and collaborator of Ukraine, organised by the Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA), has aroused great interest both in Ukraine and abroad. The 10 months of tireless work of the entire ARMA team, headed by Olena Duma, have paid off, and today a landmark event took place - the winner was selected to sell the luxury 92-metre yacht Royal Romance.
Sale of Medvedchuk's yacht is not only symbolic, as it can be the first impetus and demonstration to the entire community that the assets of traitors to Ukraine will be used for the benefit of Ukraine.
This case also sends a clear message to oligarchs and corrupt officials that their illicit assets will be identified, seized and realised for the benefit of the Ukrainian people. In doing so, we are ushering in a new era of transparency and accountability in Ukraine, where the rule of law is becoming more and more real.
This precedent may also inspire other countries to take steps towards confiscating assets from corrupt individuals, wherever they are located.
ARMA is writing modern history and demonstrating Ukrainian determination in fighting corruption and upholding the principles of justice.
We expect that the auction of Medvedchuk's yacht will be a powerful incentive for further anti-corruption reforms in Ukraine and abroad.
As a reminder, on April 23, Commission for the competitive selection of a legal entity engaged in the sale of Medvedchuk's seized yacht was appointed as the winner - Troostwijk Auctions (Netherlands).
