With the support of the European Union Advisory Mission Ukraine, a three-day training on asset recovery and financial investigations has started today, September 10, at the State University of Trade and Economics. Employees of the Asset Recovery and Management Agency, NABU, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Financial Monitoring Service, the National Police of Ukraine and the Bureau of Economic Security are taking part in the training.
The Head of the European Union Advisory Mission Ukraine (EUAM), Rolf Holmbo, noted that EUAM provides support to key actors to combat organized and cross-border crime. Increasing the capacity to investigate financial crimes is one of its elements, as reform and sustainable change are impossible without training.
The Head of the Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA), Olena Duma, expressed her gratitude to the Head of EUAM for supporting ARMA with technical assistance and similar trainings that the Mission has been providing for the National Agency's staff from time to time.
“Nowadays, 90% of crimes are committed with the use of technical means that leave cyber traces. Therefore, the latest technologies, up-to-date databases and modern equipment are some of the key tools for finding and tracing assets, as well as investigating financial crimes. Criminals are criminally liable for their illegal actions thanks to the work of law enforcement agencies, but they must also bear economic responsibility, and this is happening thanks to ARMA,” said the Head of the National Agency, adding that this training will help all participants significantly strengthen state institutions in the investigation of financial crimes.
Anatoliy Mazaraki, Rector of SUTE, noted that such events are extremely important for the reconstruction of Ukraine, and the university is always open to such cooperation with partners.
The opening of the training was also attended by the leadership of the State Financial Monitoring Service and the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine.
