Ukraine and Singapore join forces in virtual assets tracing

09-09-2024

The Deputy Head of ARMA Stanislav Petrov held a series of strategic meetings with key partners in the Republic of Singapore aimed at strengthening the protection of ARMA's information resources, in particular the register of seized assets, and improving mechanisms for finding virtual assets derived from criminal offences.

Meetings were held with representatives of the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic of Singapore, the Cyber Security Agency of the Republic of Singapore and the Government Technology Agency of Singapore.

“In a world where cyberspace has no borders, ARMA is actively strengthening international cooperation to effectively trace virtual assets and combat cryptocurrency crime. Criminals are actively using cryptocurrencies and other virtual assets to hide their illicit proceeds. Cooperation with our Singaporean colleagues opens up new opportunities for effective finding and tracing of such assets,” said
Stanislav Petrov.

He added that cooperation with Singaporean experts will allow ARMA to introduce advanced cyber defense technologies and increase the stability of its own digital resources to potential threats.

During the visit, an agreement was reached to introduce joint training programs for Ukrainian specialists on investigating cryptocurrency crimes and tracking transactions in blockchain networks. They also agreed on a mechanism for prompt information exchange with Singapore law enforcement agencies.

Stanislav Petrov also took part in the ISS World Asia international forum, where he learned about advanced methods of investigating crimes on the Dark Web and analyzing Bitcoin and Altcoin transactions. Particular attention was paid to tools for tracking and identifying cryptocurrency wallet owners.

“In an era when criminals are actively using virtual assets, international cooperation is becoming a key success factor. We are grateful to our Singaporean partners for their willingness to share their experience and develop effective methods of tracing and managing digital assets together,” emphasized the Deputy Head of ARMA.

The visit was organized with the active assistance of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Singapore Kateryna Zelenko.
